Are you a central city ambassador?
Do you sing our praises? Do you tell people about the amazing city centre at the heart of Ōtautahi Christchurch?
You do? Fantastic! Nothing is stopping you from some healthy roof-top shouting about the fact that you live in such an understated yet wonderful place.
ChristchurchNZ’s latest marketing campaign, Baby Come Back, is aimed at turning our residents into our biggest fans.
Recent perceptions research showed that 58 percent of us are proud of our city, and 54 percent were positive about its future. However only 33 percent of residents advocate for visiting Christchurch, and even less suggest moving here.
It’s understandable to want to keep what you have under wraps to a degree, but championing our city is key. This place is awesome and we should be proud – and willing to share it with others!
ChristchurchNZ launched its tongue-in-cheek campaign in June, following bumbling brothers Chadlee and Chatfield on their exploration of our city centre. Misadventure, unlikely heroes, and a catchy song. It was an unexpected and well-received message – this winter, let’s explore the city centre together.
Designed to bring people to within the four avenues during winter, the campaign also aimed to improve the local perceptions of the city centre.
Any time spent along Ōtakaro Avon River, wandering the laneways and pedestrian areas, or shopping and eating among the city’s extensive offerings, is enough to realise that any negative perceptions about Christchurch are exaggerated.
Yes there are still empty spaces and a few fences and road cones, but to complain about them is to not see the forest for the trees. Ōtautahi Christchurch is rising as a modern and liveable city, filled with modern architecture and our cherished collection of heritage buildings.
The time has come to be a city ambassador. Take Christchurch in, take a look around, and share your love of this place with others. Together, let’s tell the world about Ōtautahi Christchurch, our epic city.
